An unknown man is killed in rural England and another man is murdered in London, leaving the latter's two young children orphaned and in danger.
As Gabriel Crowther is reluctantly dragged into the investigation of the rural murder by Harriet Westerman, neither has any idea of all the secrets and darkness they're about to encounter before they solve the mystery of the murder.
